Parent / Guardian Consent & Authorisation Framework

Defines the intended governance model for parent/guardian account creation, learner linking and consent.

1. Purpose

This framework is a founder-stage governance document and must be aligned with each school’s admissions, custody, guardianship and learner-record procedures.

2. Authoritative relationship

The school is the authoritative source for confirming the learner’s relationship to a parent/guardian for platform access. The platform should not independently decide legal custody or guardianship disputes.

3. Maximum linked accounts

The proposed product rule is a maximum of two active parent/guardian accounts per learner, subject to school policy and lawful exceptions. The school remains responsible for approving, changing or removing linked relationships.

4. Eligible relationships

The platform may support lawful parents, legal guardians, foster parents and other authorised caregivers where the school has verified and approved the relationship. A family relationship alone does not automatically create access.

5. Registration

Registration should use sufficient verification information to reduce impersonation and duplicate accounts. The platform should avoid collecting more information than necessary for verification.

6. Consent

Where consent is required, the system should record the identity or account, date/time, version of the notice or consent text, relevant learner, and the consent status. Withdrawal of consent should be recorded where legally relevant.

7. Changes in authority

When a school receives a custody, guardianship, transfer or other access-authority change, the school should update the authoritative relationship record and the platform should apply the corresponding access change.

8. Disputes

The platform is not a substitute for a school’s dispute-resolution process or a court order. Access disputes should be escalated to the school’s designated authority.
